Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah all return to the national team for the ODI and T20I series against Australia next month. The trio, who were left out of Pakistan’s last two Tests against England, return in both white-ball formats. However, none of them will feature in the ODI or T20I series in Zimbabwe that will immediately follow.

No captain was announced in the PCB statement. It is understood that the captain will be announced by chairman Mohsin Naqvi at a press conference in Lahore later today. The ODI series against Australia, which starts on November 4, is the first ODI cricket in Pakistan since the World Cup in India last year. It begins a busy period in the 50-over format in the run-up to the Champions Trophy in February, the first ICC event Pakistan is scheduled to host since the 1996 World Cup. ODIs in Australia and Zimbabwe are followed by white-ball matches in both formats against South Africa, and a tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa in Multan just before the start of the Champions Trophy.
