Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 – Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq expelled from PCB selection committee
As previously reported, it is likely that a selection committee will be formed again, which is expected to be the main selector. The panel’s numerical strength is expected to be reduced, making it unlikely that Wahab and Razzaq will be replaced to make up the numbers.
Wahab’s departure is a quick demotion for a man considered to be very close to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Wahab served in his cabinet as the caretaker sports minister when Naqvi was appointed as the Punjab chief minister, and followed him to the PCB, where he was initially appointed as the chief selector. Wahab also traveled with the Pakistan team in the T20 World Cup as the senior team manager, another job that may have been taken away from him. Naqvi, on the other hand, was understandably determined to publicly demonstrate that no one was immune to the consequences.
It also shows a continuation of the instability that has plagued the selection committee in recent years. The PCB has seen six great selectors in the last four years, Wahab, Haroon Rashid, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Wasim and Misbah-ul-Haq all serving for a short time.
The remaining five members of the committee to select the coach and captain for different formats, Mohammad Yousaf, Asad Shafiq and Bilal Afzal, data analyst.
