Pep Guardiola made a big decision to leave Man City

Pep Guardiola is expected to step down as manager of Manchester City when his contract expires next summer, according to a report.

City have won it all under Guardiola, with the Spanish boss leading his side to 17 trophies, including six league titles, two FA Cups and the Champions League. He surpassed all previous City managers in terms of awards and has enjoyed eight fruitful years at the Etihad.

But the 2024/25 campaign could be his last in charge of the Cityzens, with Guardiola out of contract next summer.

After winning a fourth Premier League title in a row, Guardiola admitted his time at City is coming to an end and admitted he will hold talks with the club next season before his contract expires in 2025.

The Daily Mail say those at the club believe that the Spanish manager will not wish to extend his reign and instead expects him to leave his position.

The report also suggests that City will begin ‘succession planning’ to prepare for life away from Guardiola and Girona’s Michel could be the striker after an impressive run in La Liga.

News of the former Barcelona manager’s future came a day after City lost the FA Cup final 2-1 at the hands of rivals Manchester United. Despite a poor campaign in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag’s side managed to prevent City from winning twice at home, just one week after lifting the league trophy.

Guardiola has confirmed that he will be at City’s call for action in the upcoming campaign, but his future beyond that is unknown.
