Pittsburgh Penguins’ Evgeni Malkin Reaches 1,300 Points – Hockey Writers – NHL News

Just two days after hitting 800 assists, Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins reached another milestone. Against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 12, 2024, tallied two assists for the second consecutive game with his 1,300th NHL point. He became just the 37th player to score that many points in a career, cementing himself as a future Hall of Famer.

In one of the few moments in his illustrious career, Malkin plays less for the Stanley Cup and more for his accomplishments. He already has four assists through three games, so it’s not a lack of effort, but Pittsburgh no longer looks like one of the top contenders in the league. That said, the 38-year-old Russian actor is trying his best to change the narrative.

Malkin and the Penguins are coming off back-to-back losing streaks, something the veteran is unfamiliar with—he had never seen a campaign without a season in his entire career prior to 2022-23. So far this season, they are 1-2-0 including a 4-2 loss to the aforementioned Maple Leafs. The dynasty may be gone, but the talent is not.

The last milestone that is truly attainable for Malkin this season is 500 goals. Just two shy of that number with 498, he’s probably a few days away from that. Hitting the new century mark in goals, assists, and points during October would be quite the story, but it’s very possible for the Penguins long-term.
