When English champion Daniel Brown hit the green in the final round of the DP World Tour’s Andalucia Masters on Sunday, he couldn’t have expected to find his ball landing in an unlikely spot.
What really happened? There is no footage of Brown’s ball flying, but a funny video posted on X (formerly Twitter) shows what happened as Brown approached the spot where his ball landed, and the scene left broadcasters at a loss for words. .
You have to see it to believe it, but Brown’s ball somehow ended up wedged between a fan’s back and his chair on the 16th hole.
As Brown approached the fan, the Sky Sports commentators engaged in some hilarious banter.
“Now where’s Dan Brown’s ball?” Another broadcaster asked.
“It’s on a woman … well, … look, I can get into all kinds of trouble here,” said Wayne “Radar” Wiley.
“Watch out, Radar,” replied another operator.
“I won’t do it,” said Radar. “But it’s on the woman’s seat and it’s behind her and under the seat. And he sits very, very quietly.”
“Play it like it’s lying?” one broadcaster jokes.
“No, no, this is no joke,” Radar replied.
“I still want to see exactly where it is,” said some broadcasters, as the camera pans to the fan, where you can see the ball placed between him and the back of his seat.
“Oh, look at that!” exclaimed another broadcaster. “That’s unbelievable!”
The referee uses the tea to mark the spot where the ball hangs from the chair, then gives the woman a chance to stand up. The ball falls to the ground, and Brown is able to make the play.
Although Brown was able to get off without a penalty, he eventually holed out and finished third in the tournament, two shots behind France’s Julien Guerrier and Spain’s Jorge Campillo. Guerrier eventually made a par on the ninth playoff hole to earn his first victory in 230 games.
