Quaid-e-Azam trophy 2024 – 18-team tournament to start from October 26
In the big overhaul, the days of discrimination when it came to the number of parties went out the window. This year’s QeA will see 18 teams spread across 16 regions taking part; Lahore and Karachi have two teams each. Last year, only eight teams played in the tournament, four years ago they got only six participants. Karachi Whites are the defending champions.
“The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy is a milestone in domestic cricket in Pakistan as it is not only a tournament but also an event that showcases the amazing talent across the country and prepares them for the challenges of international cricket,” Abdullah Niazi, director. of domestic work, said the statement. “As always, we will continue to provide the best platform for the players to excel and showcase their skills in the biggest stage of domestic cricket as they will be rubbing shoulders with the best players in the country.
“In the past we have demonstrated the success of the Champions One Day Trophy, and we are fully committed to strengthening our domestic framework. The successful release of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy remains the backbone of this commitment.”
A few days ago, however, the fate of this year’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy was uncertain. ESPNcricinfo understands that the tournament has been delayed, with the domestic cricket department still awaiting the signature of the chairman for the tournament. QeA was expected to start on October 20.
The October 26 start date is later than usual. Only two of the last 15 years have the tournament started after this date. The PCB opted to host the Champions One-Day Trophy in September, Pakistan’s only empty window until May, pushing the first-class tournament into the middle of the season.
“If you want to prepare for SENA [series in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia]you can do it during practice and first-class cricket,” Shakeel said. “If there is first-class cricket ahead of South Africa, we can prepare those types of venues there. But we have to prepare pitches and situations series by series, and according to the opposition. “
