Reaction on Twitter: Anrich Nortje unleashes fury as South Africa beat Sri Lanka in 2024 T20 World Cup

South Africa who has been beaten Sri Lanka by scoring 6 points at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Monday (June 3). South Africa’s opening victory at T20 World Cup 2024 built after the fiery bowling game, led unplayable Anrich Nortje.
Sri Lanka Swimming With Bat
Sri Lanka, who elected to bat first after winning the toss, were bowled out for a paltry 77 runs in just 19.1 overs. The batsmen could not cope with the pace and accuracy of the South African bowling attack. The openers Pathum Nissanka again Kusal Mendis went down cheaply, setting the tone for a disappointing batting display. Only Angel Matthews (16 runs) can show resistance to the Proteas attack.
Anrich Nortje Creates Havoc
The architect of Sri Lanka’s death was the fast bowler Anrich Nortje. He tore through the Sri Lankan batting line-up, claiming a career-best haul of 4 wickets for just 7 runs in his four overs. His pace and swing proved too much for the Sri Lankan batsmen, who were constantly troubled by his balls. Kagiso Rabada (2 wickets), Keshav Maharaj (2 wickets) and Ottneil Baartman (1 wicket) provided excellent support, ensuring that Sri Lanka never recovered from their early batting.
South Africa is chasing freely
Chasing 78 runs, South Africa did not encounter any problems. While they lost a few wickets along the way, their first batting Quinton de Kock (20 runs) provided a stable base. Heinrich Klaasen (19 not out) and David Miller (6 not out) ensured a good chase, guiding the Proteas home comfortably in just 16.2 overs.
Nortje’s Record-Breaking Performance
Nortje’s good swing not only earned him the man of the match award but also saw him write his name in the record books. His figures of 4/7 surpassed the previous record by a South African bowler in the T20 World Cup, cementing his position as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.
Outstanding start for the Proteas
This comprehensive victory serves as a strong warning to other teams in the competition. South Africa’s bowling attack showed incredible control and aggression, while the batsmen showed their ability to chase the total with poise. With all departments firing on all cylinders, the Proteas have positioned themselves as contenders for the T20 World Cup.

THIS IS NORTJE IN HIS WAY. ⚡️
He was suffering from injuries. He was dropped from the IPL. He had expensive bowling figures in other matches. Even his place in the WC team was uncertain.
And he came back with a BHONGA right away. The best bowlers in the history of South African cricket. 🔥 pic.twitter.com/gzHl54CFD1

Anrich Nortje has received a lot of disappointment of late and deservedly so, respectfully of course. He should definitely be given credit for the way he came back. That requires some kind of high level mentality to keep believing in yourself and your ability 👌🙌👊#T20WorldCup pic.twitter.com/namTInjzAK
