Real Madrid are eyeing the Man City star as a ‘big fish signing’ in 2025

Real Madrid identified Rodri as the best to transfer target for the summer window of 2025, the report said.

Los Blancos have made two big additions to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 season, signing long-term target Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, while Brazilian star Endrick completed a move from Palmeiras after turning 18.

Madrid are resisting the urge to make a move this summer, despite being heavily linked with Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who is in the final 12 months of his contract at the Allianz Arena.

AS report that while Madrid hope to bring Davies on a free in 2025, the ‘big fish signing’ the club are hoping to make is Manchester City’s Rodri.

Club president Florentino Perez, scout Juni Calafat and manager Carlo Ancelotti have all joined the hunt for Rodri, who are looking to step into Toni Kroos’ shoes. Madrid realize that Rodri and Kroos are a bit different, but they have finally accepted that they will not find a single replica of the German anywhere in football, forcing them to look at different types of options.

Rodri is contracted to City until 2027, and although his agent has been approached to try to extend the deal, no agreement has been reached. Although the midfielder is happy at the Etihad Stadium and would welcome being one of the highest paid players in the Premier League, he misses returning to the Spanish capital, where he was born and previously played for Atletico.

The report adds that Rodri is only looking at two options, signing a new long-term deal at City or moving to Madrid.

City could be open to selling Rodri for the right price, although this would be a sum of nine, which Madrid are wary of.
