Real Madrid’s best and worst players from last minute draw against Bayern Munich
Real Madrid had to play out a draw in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, leaving them all to play for when they host the Bundesliga giants on Wednesday.
Two goals from Vinicius Junior kept Madrid in the lead midway through the match, and the Brazilian opened the scoring in the 24th minute thanks to a wonderful assist from Toni Kroos. He was also the last to put his name on the score sheet, scoring a penalty in the final minutes of the game.

Vinicius Junior – 8/10
Vinicius Junior scored both goals for Madrid, being the first to hit the net in the first half and the last to score in stoppage time.
The Brazilian has always been a threat up and down the pitch, showing powerful runs that have wreaked havoc on the likes of Kim Min-jae at the back. Vinicius looked electric on the pitch, but managed to stay composed when he stepped up to take the all-important penalty.
His efforts have made a real difference to Madrid, and will be incredibly valuable when they return to face Bayern next week.
Honorable mention
Toni Kroos – 7/10
Toni Kroos played the conductor of the orchestra that was the clash between Madrid and Bayern, and he played it well.
He has worked to pull the strings in his midfield role, bringing an assured presence to a chaotic area of the pitch.
Kroos also provided the assist for Vinicius’ opening goal, throwing Madrid into the game. Carlo Ancelotti said he had “no words” after the game, summing up his incredible performance.
Lucas Vazquez – 4/10
Lucas Vazquez was something of a deer in headlights, often struggling to compete with Bayern’s talented players.
He put a heavy foot in to give Bayern their penalty, giving them a goal that Madrid had to fight to overturn. Although right back is not his natural position, a player with his experience and stature should have been able to handle the situation better.
Speaking of shame
Jude Bellingham – 5/10
The game appeared to outscore Jude Bellingham, something the 20-year-old is rarely guilty of.
Bellingham has struggled to make an impact in the final third, an area where he usually favors Madrid. The Bayern defender looked set to rule him out of the game and they got their reward when Bellingham was sent off with 15 minutes remaining.
Ancelotti admitted this was not his “best form” and will hope to see him back to his normal form next week.
