Rickie Fowler’s 1-minute shooting lesson will sharpen your short game

Let’s be honest here, hitting the flop shot is not for everyone. Sure, the shot is useful – like when you’re going slow and need to land the ball on the green quickly – but actually pulling it off is easier said than done.
As an average person, I know this well.
For example, my setup is usually tight, and I open the clubface enough to use the bounce of the club against the turf. But then I seem to lean back on my turn(causing the skulled shot), or back down (chunk city).
If you’re like me and trying to master the flop shot, check out Rickie Fowler’s tips below (video courtesy of TaylorMade’s YouTube channel). Maybe a six-time PGA Tour winner can help you put it all together and finally hit a trick golf shot with more consistency.
How Rickie Fowler hit the perfect flop shot
The biggest concern for many beginners when hitting flop shots is commitment — that is, trusting that the setup, clubface control and swing speed are just right.
When you feel in doubt, that’s when the horror episode or the skull shot happens.
Fowler says the number one job is opening the clubface.
“Obviously, the face should be open, but the weight will remain the same and mostly [lead side]and football [on the front foot] and weight will continue towards that direction,” he said. “I like to feel the kind of face that opens up, and then I hold it [at the top of the backswing] to bring out the bounce [coming down into impact].”
As Fowler runs, he says he tries to make sure he finishes with his forward weight.
So while the flop shot can be tricky to master, by keeping things simple, trusting the necessary steps, and committing to the shot, you can see success just like Fowler did.
