Rodgers warns Rangers that Celtic have stepped up at the right time

Brendan Rodgers says Celtic are waking up at the right time as they prepare for this weekend’s Old Firm survival game.

Rangers travel to Parkhead on Saturday lunchtime three points behind Rodgers’ men at the top of the Scottish Premiership and on goal difference.

Victory for Celtic will make it four straight at the Hoops and give them six points from Philippe Clement’s in-form side with just two games remaining.

Rodgers told Celtic TV: “Looking at the injuries and disruptions we’ve had this season, last weekend was about presence, fitness and where the team is at.

“It is a good place as we have been staying all season. When we get to this weekend’s game, this will be the best type of team since I’ve been here.”

Skipper Callum McGregor looked in good shape after suffering an injury in last weekend’s win over Hearts and starred in the final game between the two sides at Celtic Park, while Japan’s Daizen Maeda made the bench with a hamstring strain.

Referee Willie Collum will officiate Saturday’s game, as he played the VAR role in Celtic’s last game, which the home team won 2-1 in December.

Rangers claim they should have been fined for handball against Alistair Johnston and reports have suggested Rangers have asked for Collum to be excluded from future games, a request which the Scottish FA “immediately rejected”.
