Yas Links once again impressed the world’s best golfers during the prestigious Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, with several players praising the course’s impeccable conditions.
Rory McIlroy, who topped the Race to Dubai rankings for the fifth time thanks to victory at the DP World Tour Championship, said: “The condition of the golf course is absolutely amazing. It doesn’t sound like there is any grass in the area.
“The roads are too crowded, even for me. I’m worried about missing the wedge shot. But the fairways are amazing, the tees, the greens. The condition of the golf course is amazing.”
Shane Lowry echoes this praise. “It’s a beautiful place. The weather is obviously hot, it’s different for January, but the course is in as good a condition as I’ve ever seen a golf course.”
Thorbjorn Olesen highlighted the quality of the greens, saying: “With the conditions of the greens, if you place well, you can make more putts.”
Scottish Open winner Robert MacIntyre emphasized the perfection of the set-up: “The course conditions are perfect, and it’s trying to give itself 18 birdie chances, and if you do that, you’ll get a couple really close. I don’t think it would be better if there was a situation.”
