Bukauskas: “So another file that the Flyers have to fix is Ryan Johansen. So in August, they took him out of court with the intention of terminating his contract. They did that, and as many expected, it was this week, Ryan Johansen in his camp, filed a complaint about it. So, what can you tell us about where things stand there?”

Friedman: “Yes, so the Players Association has announced that they have started an appeal. They had 60 days.

And it’s interesting to react to this. And as I said, and I said, from the beginning, the source of this controversy is that this is a player who doesn’t miss games or practices while he’s in Colorado. And he came, he was traded to Philadelphia, and suddenly it was a problem. And that was the root of the rivalry between the two groups.

Now, one thing I always say, and you have to be very careful, is that you know, anybody who plays 900 NHL games like Johansen did, they’re going to get old. So I don’t like to ask about injuries.

There’s one thing I said in the pod, I think it was before you took Kyle, so you don’t have to take the blame for it. it’s only up to me. Is that the one, when Philadelphia announced the abolition. It was after her wedding, and she was dancing, and, you know, I had some people say to me that that might have been one of the reasons for the timing.

And I had somebody call me and say, he didn’t think that was right, and he was more, he was more angry with me than he was with Philly or anybody else. He said he knows there’s a big difference between trying to fight Anza Kopitar and dancing at your wedding. And he didn’t like to relate. And he didn’t like me raising you that way. And so I said, you know what, if I get a chance to talk about it, I’ll say it. And he said he thought that was right.

Like his point was you can get hurt in the NHL and you can’t play in the NHL, but it doesn’t mean you can’t do other things like that in your life.

That is what will be the root of this conflict when they enter the process of filing complaints. I always think that everyone wants to try to fix this if they can.

Neither side likes a mediator creating a precedent, they really try to avoid that. So I always think they’re trying to fix it, but we’ll see where it goes. I think it will go down when Johansen sees the doctors, what do they say?”

Bukauskas: “That’s right.”

Friedman: “And the answers of those doctors will determine who wins or loses, or resolves this appeal.”

Bukauskas: “Okay, so you know what the next step is in all of this?”

Friedman: “Now they have to set up arbitration, but I think there will still be attempts at settlement.”
