Saliba believes he needs to do one thing to be considered the best in the world
Arsenal’s William Saliba believes he is currently one of the best defenders in the world but has admitted he needs to do one thing to become a top player.
Saliba has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League over the past few seasons and has formed an amazing relationship with Brazilian Gabriel Magalhaes.
The Frenchman has had numerous loan spells away from the Emirates and the likes of Marseille and Nice which have helped him develop and mature into the player he is today.
Saliba lacks one thing to be the best in the world
Arsenal had the best defense in the league last season and Saliba became the first player in club history to play every minute of a Premier League campaign.
The 23-year-old started this season in a similar fashion and following last weekend’s win over Tottenham, the Gunners conceded just once in the first four games.
Saliba is undoubtedly already one of the best defenders in the world, but the Frenchman believes he needs to win trophies if he is to be considered the best in the world.
“I was on the right track in both seasons, especially last season,” Saliba told Fox Sports Mexico.
“Maybe I’m on my way to becoming the best defender in the world.
“I think I’m one of the best players right now, but to say that I have to win some titles. I guess that’s what I’m saying right now.
“If you win titles you are good and if you don’t win you can’t say you are the best. That’s what I believe. I am one of the best in the world.”
Having come within two points of the Premier League title last season Saliba will be hoping it’s third time lucky for Arsenal as they look to end a wait of more than two decades for a league title.
Saliba will also hope that the Gunners can challenge for the Champions League and try to win that trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
