San Diego FC are weighing Kevin De Bruyne’s interest in a potential move
Rising Major League Soccer side San Diego FC have held talks with Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to discuss the player’s future, according to a report from Manchester City. Tom Bogert of the Athletic.
According to Bogert, the discussion is only focused on De Bruyne who is open to playing in southern California. However, that was the level of discussion and no move should be considered imminent.
De Bruyne recently won his fourth Premier League title in a row with Manchester City providing six goals and 18 assists this season. California’s MLS teams have traditionally been linked with high-profile signings of mature European players, but San Diego FC will add something different to the equation when they play in MLS next season as a rising club.
Any interest or potential MLS move for De Bruyne is centered on his Manchester City contract which expires next summer. De Bruyne could retire at the end of his contract and take the coveted trophy. If the midfielder wants to continue playing, expect MLS teams and possibly clubs in Saudi Arabia to try to lure De Bruyne.
Of course, there is the added possibility that New York City FC is part of the City Football Group and could be a destination for the Belgian midfielder. One of, if not the greatest midfielder of his generation would be MLS’ marquee signing if ever there was one.
San Diego FC had advanced talks with Hirving Lozano and Sergio Ramos before their debut. Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus has also held talks with Charlotte FC. The German midfielder will leave Dortmund after the Champions League final.
