Shakur Stevenson Signs Promotional Deal With Matchroom Boxing

Eddie Hearn and Matchroom are pleased to announce the signing of boxing’s biggest megastar in Shakur Stevenson.

The WBC World Lightweight Champion (22-0, 10 KOs) will defend his title against former IBF Super-Featherweight champion Joe Cordina on October 12 at the upcoming Riyadh Season in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Honorable Turki Alalshikh confirmed today that the 27-year-old World Champion will fight Walesman Cordina on the same night as Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev take on the Undisputed Light-Heavyweight Champion.

Future bout with mandatory challenger William Zepeda awaits the winner – and Stevenson is confident of setting up a big fight with the undefeated Mexican.

“I’m ready to start this next chapter of my career and it starts on October 12 with Joe Cordina on the Riyadh Season card in Saudi Arabia,” said Stevenson.

“I have made it clear that I want big names and big fights in sports. Bring William Zepeda to the top in 2025 and I’m ready for anyone brave enough to step into the ring with me. There have been a few willing to take up that challenge in recent years.

With Matchroom and Riyadh Season, I am partnering with an advertising powerhouse like my world-class talent. We will not be caught in and out of the ring, and I will continue to show my dominance for many years to come in the sport of boxing.”

CHAIRMAN of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn, believes that Stevenson is a generational talent, who will go down in history as one of the game’s greats.

“I am delighted to welcome what I believe is a great pound-for-pound to the Matchroom team,” said Hearn.

“Shakur Stevenson is 27 years old and is still a three-division World Champion and may not win a boxing match.

“This young man should be a world star, and I believe that as he faces our machine, he will face all the big fights and get all the credit he deserves.

“The tour starts on October 12 in Riyadh with a big card, and we can’t wait for the future together.”

Southpaw Stevenson dismantled Artem Harutyunyan in July in front of his hometown fans in Newark, New Jersey, winning by a comfortable points decision.

The American took the WBC Lightweight crown back in November 2023 when he defeated Edwin De Los Santos in Las Vegas to take the vacant belt.

Stevenson prides himself on his impressive streak – having defeated the likes of Oscar Valdez, Robson Conceicao and Jamel Herring – which has seen him collect the WBC and WBO Super Featherweight belts, as well as the WBO Featherweight title during his impressive career thus far.

Matchroom Boxing will provide details on Shakur Stevenson’s introductory press conference in Los Angeles next week at a later date.
