Southampton progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in midweek with a penalty shootout win at Everton, but Martin will make a number of changes for his side’s return to St Mary’s.

Youngster Tyler Dibling impressed in the defeat to Manchester United and could return to the starting XI, while Adam Lallana could return to the bench.

Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has not played yet, while Jack Stephens is suspended due to his red card against United. Will Smallbone and Kamaldeen Sulemana are both doubtful to play.

Southampton predicted to face Ipswich Town (4-3-3): Ramsdale; Sugawara, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Walker-Peters; Ugochukwu, Downes, Fernandes; Dibling, Brereton Diaz, Cornet.

Ipswich will have to do without Harry Clarke, Nathan Broadhead and Janoi Donacien in their bid for a first league win of the season.

Elsewhere, it could be the first regular program from McKenna. Jack Clarke could start on the wing in place of Wes Burns, while Omari Hutchinson and Sammie Szmodics could support Liam Delap in attack.

On-loan midfielder Kalvin Phillips will also get another chance after struggling in the last game at Brighton.

Ipswich Town predicted to face Southampton (4-2-3-1): Muric; Tuanzebe, O’Shea, Greaves, Davis; Morsy, Phillips; Hutchinson, Szmodics, Clarke; Delap.

A lot is riding on this meeting between Southampton and Ipswich. Both teams are likely to hit the tail end of a tough time at the end of the season and three points here could be the difference between staying afloat or rejoining England’s second tier.

Saints have been plagued by waste so far, failing to make the most of promising conditions against Newcastle United and Manchester United.

Their opponents showed plenty of steel in their trip to Brighton last week and they also won twice against Southampton last season. That said, a draw could be on the cards.

Prediction: Southampton 2-2 Ipswich
