With the trade deadline just three weeks away, here are three things we’ll be looking at around the world of baseball all day today:
1. Phillies get healthy:
The Phillies are expecting to receive a slugger Kyle Schwarber returned from the injured list today, and could be joined by a veteran star Bryce Harper. The pair were placed on the injured list late last month with hip and hamstring strains, respectively, although both issues were described as very mild. According to reports over the weekend, Schwarber has been running at 100% intensity for several days while Harper has been running “at or near 100% intensity.”

Schwarber enjoyed his usual strong season with the Phillies, hitting .250/.373/.447 with 17 home runs in his 367 plate appearances this year. 2. Red Sox 40-man pitching?
The Red Sox selected lefty Cam Booser to Triple-A following last night’s game, according to the team’s announcement. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported last night that Booser’s departure could lead to the Red Sox picking up the right-hander’s contract. Trey Wingenter today. Wingenter, 30, was acquired by the Red Sox in a trade with the Tigers over the weekend for minor league relief. CJ Weins.
Wingenter, pitched in parts of three big league seasons, struggled to a 5.28 ERA in the majors despite a very strong 3.82 FIP. He posted strong strikeout numbers but a high walk rate. The deal was reportedly prompted by Wingenter activating an assignment clause in his minor league contract, meaning the Red Sox would have to add a righty to their 40-man roster shortly after the trade. That is now expected to happen today, and the Sox will need to clear the 40-man roster spot for Wingenter.
