Steph Curry Gets Real About Warriors Goals This Season
On Warriors news day, Steph Curry wasn’t throwing any big plans like winning a title or going deep, he was more focused on staying fit.
“I think we’re in a position where we can be the right team early on and give ourselves a chance to compete,” said Curry through Anthony Slater. “Then check where we are.”
Interestingly, Curry also offered this thought without prompting, “I’m coming into this training camp with an open mind about how we should play. I know that there is a Warrior concept and culture in the way we do things, there is a system that we have worked on for ten years and more that has worked. It doesn’t mean that this team has to play like this. We have to have antennas and an openness to accept what are the strengths of this team, what are our weaknesses and depend on that.”
Ask any NBA fan and they’ll tell you the Warriors may struggle this season, and they certainly haven’t put together a championship-caliber team yet.
But, that was the same story for the team in 2022 and look what happened there.
This time, Golden State is without its key veteran in Klay Thompson, but Curry is hoping for new additions Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson and De’Anthony Melton.
“All three guys we brought in are all veterans,” Curry said. “The established veterans who know how to play this game. Good pieces you need to be a championship type team. Does that mean we exist? I don’t know.”
As he said, Curry also stuck to his ‘Warrior for life’ tagline, but used the right word again.
“It’s always been my goal and it’s still my goal to be a Warrior for life, to stay competitive throughout this program,” Curry said. “I’m very confident that being here and being a successful team is possible. Until I’m proven otherwise, that’s the way I’m going forward.”
