T20 World Cup 2024 – Australia stars Pat Cummins with hat-trick against Bangladesh

It was the first hat-trick in this World Cup and the seventh in the history of this tournament.

Cummins became the second Australian player after Brett Lee to achieve this feat in T20 World Cups. Curtis Campher, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kagiso Rabada, Karthik Meiyappan and Josh Little are other bowlers who have completed hat-tricks in this event.

After a wicketless first spell, Cummins hit his hat-trick in the 18th and 20th overs. On the fifth ball of the 18th over, he attracted an inside edge with a slightly longer delivery to settle Mahmudullah’s stumps. The next delivery was a backward ball outside the off stump which Mahedi Hasan tried to cut high, but edged it out to Adam Zampa at deep third.

When Cummins came out to bowl the last over of the innings, he started the innings slowly from outside off against set batsman Towhid Hridoy, who lifted the delivery to short leg. The hat-trick took Hridoy off his 28-ball 40 and it was the sixth time that Mahmudullah has been the victim of a hat-trick in international cricket.

Cummins’ three wickets and Zampa’s 2 for 24 helped Australia limit Bangladesh to 140 for 8 runs. Australia were leading the chase led by David Warner’s half-century before rain interrupted the match and Australia were eventually declared winners by 28 runs by the DLS method. .
