T20 World Cup 2024 – India vs Bangladesh – Samson opens but falls early

Samson’s stay was short-lived: he was lbw to Shoriful Islam for 1 in the second over of the match.
Pent hit No. 3, replaced Samson on the axis.
India’s opening combination has been the subject of debate ahead of the tournament, with Rohit, as captain, expected to occupy one of the two opening positions.
Kohli, who has spent most of his T20I career as the No. 3, comes to the World Cup after a hugely successful IPL at the top, leading the charts with 741 runs at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, and showing an improved ability to reach the boundary against spin in the middle overs – this has been a concern in recent seasons.
Jaiswal, on the other hand, gives India the option of reaching up, to the left and the tactical advantage of preventing opposition bowlers from bowling with the left arm in the powerplay – a style of bowling that Rohit and Kohli have struggled to score in the past.
Given that this is a warm-up game where both teams can use their entire squad – up to 11 allowed to bat and 11 at any time – not much can be learned from Samson’s selection as opener and Pant No. 3. It is possible that India may be looking to have a good look at both goalkeepers before deciding who to pick for their tournament opener against Ireland on June 5.
