T20 World Cup 2024: Irfan Pathan – ‘Sometimes having a celebrity culture doesn’t help India’

“Australia doesn’t have a celebrity culture. Fortunately or unfortunately we have that,” Pathan said on ESPNcricinfo’s T20 Rendezvous show. “It’s better, I would like to have a good balance between Australian and Indian cultures where we fit in. Sometimes having that kind of culture doesn’t help us. At the same time, we are who we are. We’re not Australians, we’re Indians. Our feelings are different, our way of thinking is different.
Hardik’s form was also poor as he managed to produce only 216 runs in 13 innings, averaging 18.00, and 11 wickets. Pathan, however, felt that the allrounder is the most important part if India wants to make it to the T20 World Cup and whatever happens in the IPL should not come into the picture.
“I think, as an all-rounder, Hardik Pandya will play a very important role, the reason is how many fast bowlers we have taken – three, only three fast bowlers. Then there are two other guys, Hardik Pandya who can bowl. medium fast bowling and Shivam Dube [anyone else],” said Pathan.
“And when the time comes, I think that is the most important thing if you want to win the World Cup. His three or four overs will be very important because if he does that, which he has done in the last few games.” we can play more spinner in west indies if needed because afternoon games will buy more spinners than night games because of dew.
“That’s when he comes to the picture that he needs to feel happy, he needs to believe that he can participate and that’s where the IPL conversation shouldn’t happen even once. Forget it don. don’t even talk about it.”
“When Greg Chappell came in, his intention was pure, his intention was to elevate Indian cricket,” Pathan said. “He wanted everyone to be treated equally and he wanted everyone to work in the same way as the Indian team, but his approach was proper Australia, which didn’t work in India. His intentions were never in question.
“I have a lot of respect for him. I told him to his face that your intentions are good, but make sure you find a way in the center to do the best for Indian cricket because you want Indian cricket to grow but this violence will not work.”
