Mohammad Amir recalls a touching gesture from Virat Kohli

Ahead of this important encounter, the Pakistani seamstress Mohammad Amir shared a heartwarming story involving the Indian batsman Virat Kohli. In 2016, Kohli gave Amir one of his bats, a gesture that has since become remembered as a symbol of sport and respect between the two cricketing nations.

Narrating the incident, Amir revealed that the story started during the Asia Cup Bangladesh. Speaking to Star Sports, Amir elaborated that he and another cricketer Imad Wasim met Kohli in the gallery during the tournament. Imad was testing Kohli’s bat, prompting Amir to express his own desire for the bat. Kohli, in response, promised to give him the bat when Pakistan toured India in the T20 World Cup. True to his word, Kohli presented Amir with his MRF armband when the teams met at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The move came at a time when Amir was returning to international cricket after being sidelined for repairs, making the moment particularly poignant.

“The story of beatings started in Bangladesh when the Asia Cup was going on. After the match, Imad Wasim and I were walking towards the dressing room. We saw Virat coming towards us. So, Imad checked Virat’s bat. So I said ‘Leave Imad, I need your bat. So Virat promised me. You said you are coming to India for the World Cup, I will give you my stick there. So he was practicing in Kolkata and I shouted to him ‘where is my bat?’ He said ‘yes I brought it’ and after practice he gave me his stick,” Amir said.
