In a low-scoring game at New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Monday, June 4, South Africa he came out victorious Sri Lanka by six wickets in their group stage match of T20 World Cup 2024. Maharaj came into the attack after the powerplay, conceding just six runs in his first over. His second over had a big impact, as he dismissed the Sri Lankan skipper Wanindu Hasaranga duck with two balls, hit while trying to take the spinner. Maharaj struck again on the next ball, and got it out Sadeera Samarawickrama, who knocked the ball off his stumps while trying to cut the shot. These two strikes left Sri Lanka reeling at 32/4 in the ninth over. Maharaj ended his spell with good figures of 2/22.

The beauty of Anrich Nortje in South Africa
Anrich Nortje furthered Sri Lanka’s woes with some spectacular bowling. Nortje bowled a killer spell, finishing with an enviable 4/7 in four overs. His blazing pace and accuracy were too much for the Sri Lankan batsmen to handle. With that, Sri Lanka were bowled out for the lowest total in T20 cricket, managing just 77 runs in 19.1 overs. Kusal Mendis he was Sri Lanka’s top scorer, scoring 19 runs off 30 balls.
South Africa’s chase
Chasing a modest target of 78, South Africa achieved the required runs for the loss of four wickets. The Proteas, led by Aiden Markram, demonstrated composure and the ability to maximize victories. Despite losing a few wickets, the goal was never reached, and South Africa secured a comfortable victory.
