Sunday’s game against Liverpool last weekend was not ‘good’ for Erik ten Hag, after his Man United side were comprehensively beaten at Old Trafford.
There was a big difference in the styles and organization of the two teams, with the visitors shifting gears when needed and the hosts again looking like a different group of people.
While one can understand INEOS’s reason for keeping the Dutchman in the hot seat at the Theater of Dreams, surely he has already seen that they made the wrong decision.
Ten Hag needs to go said Collymore
There is no improvement in what is provided as entertainment money in 2023/24, and unless something changes quickly, there should be a change in the mined area.
That’s exactly what former Liverpool striker and CaughtOffside writer Stan Collymore is advocating.
“I’m sure that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS came in and agreed for him to continue because they looked at the time Arsenal gave Mikel Arteta and they thought ‘well, if we trust the process, it can work’,” he said in an exclusive interview.
“Ten Hag is no Arteta though. I know that Arsenal have only won one FA Cup with Arteta, but there is a clear and obvious improvement that is happening season after season under the Spaniard, and most importantly, the team is getting to know themselves. The Gunners play very exciting and fast free-flowing football.
“Historically, United have played the same kind of electric football, which plays everything; a devastating attack that splits the defense but they’re nowhere near regaining that identity under the Ten Hag – at best they’re passive and at worst they’re boring. He must go.”
Although he makes a living by giving a consistent opinion that often seems to make him indifferent to certain things, it’s hard not to agree with Collymore on this occasion.
How much of the same does the board want to put their season ticket holders through?
Of course, there is more to be done at the club than filling a managerial vacancy, but it could be a start – and it could kick-start United’s season in time.
