We are entering the last few weeks of the 2024 summer transfer window and, as expected, the rumors are telling strange story after strange story.
From outrageous transfer deals to clubs asking for world-class players for free and superstars being linked with shock moves, we’ve had a little bit of everything this week.
Here’s our pick of the seven most shocking transfer rumors at the moment.
Rumors
El Nacional in Spain it is reported that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has proposed a transfer agreement that will take Julian Alvarez to Real Madrid to replace Rodrygo Goes.
Our take
El Nacional they are truly the gift that keeps on giving.
This week, the Spanish publication released another doozy by saying:
A) Insisting that it is Guardiola who does Man City’s transfer business and not sporting director Txiki Begiristain.
B) Suggesting a direct exchange between two players with very different values in today’s market – especially after the different fortunes of Rodrygo and Alvarez in 2023/24.
c) That said, Man City will be in the market for another striker having already signed Savio this summer.
Rumors
In accordance with Duncan CastlesManchester Utd are looking at Sander Berge as an alternative to target Manuel Ugarte.
Our take
In 2019, these transfer rumors might make sense.
But now, in 2024, and after seeing Berge play in the Premier League and Championship in recent years, that is not the case.
Rumors
Gazette dello Sport have reported that Juventus are in the market for a striker and have identified Chelsea’s Armando Broja as an option.
Our take
Given Arkadiusz Milik’s fitness struggles over the years, it makes sense that Juve would be in the market for a new striker to back up Dusan Vlahovic.
Broja could certainly be a cheap option to fill this gap in their attack, but is he a good enough option? It’s hard to say he’s there now.
Rumors
In accordance with Defensa CentralNewcastle United are ready to make a £67m bid to sign Arda Guler from Real Madrid.
Our take
Demand, demand, demand.
‘We have the worst transfer rumors of the week’ and they appear Defensa Central.
While Newcastle have unlimited money, due to PIF restrictions their ability to spend it is restricted this summer.
Add to that the fact that Guler would be mad to leave Madrid for a non-Champions League club in the 2024/25 season and you have an incredibly strange transfer rumour.

Level They said Aston Villa have been linked with the possible signing of Jean-Philippe Mateta, but have been told the striker is not for sale.
Our take
From the most disgusting to the most horrifying rumors on this list.
Mateta has been linked with a number of clubs this summer after an impressive 2023/24 campaign with Crystal Palace and it makes sense that Villa will be looking to add more fire to their attack having won the Champions League.
And while that all makes sense, it also makes sense that Palace are trying to tie up a new deal at Selhurst Park.
Rumors
Football Insider they say Inter will hijack West Ham United’s £10m move for defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Our take
The fact that Inter play a 3-5-2 formation where the defenders are the main attacking players should tell you all you need to know about these rumours.
Rumors
In accordance with Mundo DeportivoBarcelona want to re-sign Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on loan, but are unwilling to pay any fees to get the deals lined up.
Our take
Barca want Felix and Cancelo on loan for another season is not ridiculous, but want both without spending a single cent.
It will never happen.
