The Arsenal legend reveals talks over a return to the club

Arsenal legend Santi Cazorla dreams of a return to the Emirates and says the club have ‘left the door open’ to his departure.

The Spanish midfielder made his Premier League debut in 2018, making 180 appearances in six seasons for the Gunners. He quickly became a very popular member of the team but was forced to leave after frequent injuries.

Cazorla has refused to close his Arsenal chapter altogether, and has now admitted he wants to return to north London where he can play.

In interview no Sky SportsCazorla has revealed his discussions with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta about returning to the club after retirement.

He said: “I have a very special love for Arsenal. I spent six wonderful years there and I know how much everyone loves me there.

“Yes, I was lucky enough to share the dressing room with Mikel Arteta and now he is the manager. We had discussions about that but at the moment I am not focused on anything other than having a role in this club, [Real] Oviedo, and continue to enjoy football as a player.

“After that, we’ll see what the future holds for me. It’s clear that Arsenal are always open to a return. But for now, I have enough on my mind about the play-offs and trying to enjoy the last days of my playing career.”

Cazorla made a big return to his boyhood club Real Oviedo in the summer of 2023, making his much-anticipated debut against Real Valladolid in September. His homecoming was a joy for the fans, who had not seen him in an Oviedo shirt for 20 years.

The club are hoping to return to Spain’s top flight for the first time in 23 years as they fight for the play-offs. Their first leg match against Eibar on Saturday ended in a 0-0 draw, which means it’s all up for grabs when they travel to the Ipurua Municipal Stadium on Wednesday.
