The Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes

Boston Bruins Five Things That Matter This Offseason

Conor Ryan of Boston.com: Ryan writes that the Boston Bruins did everything they could against salary this past season. General manager Don Sweeney has done his best, but there are still some areas the Bruins need to address.

NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils

  1. Trade Linus Ullarmark – This will be tricky as Ullmark has a 16-team no-trade clause. However, he could get the Bruins what they need in terms of cap relief, as Jeremy Swayman should get a raise in the summer and center.
  2. Top Six Center – Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle have done their best, but the Bruins need a top six center to replace Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. Players like Elias Lindholm and Martin Necas, and maybe seeing what happened with Pierre-Luc Dubois in Los Angeles could help Boston.
  3. Re-sign Jeremy Swayman and Jake DeBrusk – The Bruins have to lock down their starting goaltender. He will get paid, but they need to leave room to extend a player like DeBrusk who has had a rocky road in Boston.
  4. Bolster Depth Scoring – The Bruins lack the scoring depth to match other teams in the division and conference. They have $26 million to play with before re-signing Swayman and possibly DeBrusk. But players like Tyler Toffoli, Jonathan Marchessault, and Tyler Bertuzzi can help that problem.
  5. Add Size to the Blueline – The Bruins need to add size to the backend. Brenden Dillon and Joel Edmundson fit what the Bruins need on the left side of the low pairing.

NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins – Swayman, Marchand, DeBrusk, and Maroon

Will Martin Necas Stay With The Carolina Hurricanes?

Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer: Alexander writes that Martin Necas remains at the center of trade talks and speculation from Carolina since the NHL Trade Deadline.

NHL Rumors: Carolina Hurricanes & # 8211; Don Waddell, Blue Line, and Right-Shot Center

Necas is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. He is a top-six forward who wants a raise this summer. Current Hurricanes GM Don Waddell wants to try to get something out of Necas.

According to those who know him, Necas wants to play in the center of the field, but coach Rod Brind’Amour has never used him in this position. The question is, do the Canes think he can play this position, and what is his value to them?
