Detroit Red Wings Must Learn From Anaheim’s RFA Status From Last Year

Boomer Gordon: “Okay, let’s deal with RFAs. Detroit is a very interesting team, because it has two, and it feels like they are different situations that don’t mix. What do you want to do? First, Raymond or Seider?

Dave Pagnotta: “Well, I can touch on both before going into each other, but look, they’re both working on a long-term deal. Each of them. That’s an idea I got a few days ago, that’s the same word I got yesterday, talking to people on both sides of the equation in every industry that’s focused on long-term contracts.

NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings, and Philadelphia Flyers

And both guys who understand the market, they want market value. So I think the understanding is long-term. It’s just a matter of getting down to the nitty-gritty, obviously, the dollars and how the structure of these deals will be, will be played out.

You know, I think there was a certain thought process from the Detroit side of things, that probably kept, you know, most of the Seider closer to eight wide. But after Brock Faber got his $68 million extension with Minnesota, $8.5 million a year, that puts things a little differently for them, and certainly for Mo’s camp. I have to think that is a low bar in terms of their AAV.

NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings have two unsigned RFAs – Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond

And I think as far as Lucas Raymond is concerned, he’s probably in the seven and a half to eight million range in AAV. There is still a lot of work to be done on both sides, Boom, but they seem to be moving forward and trying to do something.

I checked twice again in the last few hours. Even now, they are still working on it. So I don’t expect anything too close in terms of, you know, getting an announcement today, but maybe this is something that happens next week as we get closer to the start of camps.”
