The line-up has been confirmed in anticipation of the Euro 2024 semi-finals

The Netherlands and Turkey will face off in the quarter final of Euro 2024 on Saturday night.

A place in the semi-finals is the prize for both sides’ chances of winning a historic title in Germany.

The Dutch have not been at their best in the tournament so far, but they still have three wins in the silverware.

They beat Romania in the last 16, comfortably in the final, but face another tough test in Turkey.

It has been a surprising pack so far as they have failed to live up to the hype at previous Euros, but are now flourishing under head coach Vincenzo Montella.

Neither team will want to play too much with their roster, but Turkey will have to find a way to replace Merih Demiralk, who scored both goals against Austria.

Captain Hakan Calhanoglu returns from suspension but midfielders Orkun Kokcu and Ismail Yuksek will have to sit out after picking up two yellow cards.

Eight other Turkish players are at risk of suspension if they are cautioned, including Real Madrid star Arda Guler.

The Dutch have no such problems, with only three players in danger of missing the potential semi-final – although one of them is full-back Denzel Dumfries.

Head coach Ronald Koeman said earlier in the week that Nathan Ake will need a fitness test, despite training in the days leading up to the game.

What they say

Koeman admits that he does not know why the Netherlands’ fixtures have not changed but he is adamant that they will face Turkey.

He said: “Sometimes it’s hard to explain why you play poorly in one game and why you excel in another.

“[Against Romania] The start was difficult, but eventually we found our game and caused them problems. Perhaps the most important point is that it took a long time to score the second goal. The end result is always the most important thing.

“We are Dutch, and we have to play well. All performance [against Romania] it was outstanding.”

Turkey manager Montella praised his opponents in the quarter-finals and played down Turkey’s chances of progressing to the last four.

He continued: “The Netherlands are a very talented team like us so it will be a tough game.

“We are one of the teams with the least experience of the tournament, so we are very happy to get to this level.

“I don’t believe in structures but I believe in tactics. We try to change from game to game according to our opponents.”
