The Real Madrid midfielder confirms that he will take Toni Kroos’ number

Federico Valverde has announced his plans to take over Toni Kroos’ shirt number as the German midfielder bids farewell to his time at Real Madrid.
Kroos played his final game in Madrid on Saturday, following his decision to retire completely after the European Championships – where he will be playing for the host nation.
The German was able to see his last team get an assist, setting up Dani Carvajal’s goal as Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League final.
His departure means that the number 8 jersey in the Real Madrid team is now up for grabs.
Speaking after the victory at Wembley Stadium, Valverde confirmed that he will put a number on Carlo Ancelotti’s team next season.
“I love number 15, my dream at Real Madrid started with this number,” said the Uruguayan player. “But yes, I will change it in two months. Let’s say that chapter ends well.”
When asked how much he will miss his midfielder, Valverde added: “A lot, like everyone else.
“He is a person who left his legend here, his mark. We, as young people, try to learn as much from him as possible, as it were [Luka] Modric.
“Thank you for everything you have given us and taught us every day, for that competition.”
Kroos played among all 22 starters on Saturday with 108 touches, 94 pass attempts, and 91 passes. Only teammate Ferland Mendy surpassed him in passing accuracy. Meanwhile, Dortmund’s Julian Brandt equaled Kroos’ tally with four chances created.
