Three Box Cup wins for Hebden Bridge

Written by Clayton Varey

HEBDEN Bridge Boxing Club competed in the Hull Box Cup on June 28-30. Hebden left with seven boxers and returned with two golds and one silver.

First Day: Kai Fenton, competing in his first season as a senior at 75 kg, faced the more experienced Kai Morley from Clayton ABC. Fenton, of Hebden Bridge, had his 30th belt, while Morley had his 88th; Fenton won by unanimous decision.

Day Two: Kai was up against another experienced boxer, Tommy Naismith of York ABC. The two have boxed three times before; Kai came away with another unanimous decision win, after three close rounds.

Day Three: The final match and Kai was up against another experienced boxer who had 63 fights and was from England. Kai turned it on in style to win another unanimous decision, not dropping a round the entire weekend, which was somewhat of an accomplishment as he was the underdog at the start of the contest.

The second gold medal went to Kayne Miles Junior with a weight of 60 kg. In the final, he beat Yehor Harimlend of Sheffield City ABC where Kayne secured victory in a closely contested split decision.

Robin Moss came away with silver for the second year in a row. Competing in his first year as a senior, at 60KG, Robin boxed on Saturday against York ABC’s Lucas Butfield.

Both boxers clashed heads in the first round and the doctor stopped the fight. It was counted again and Robin was declared the winner. In the final, Robin was up against John Taylor from Bulkington ABC. The first round had the same result with both boxers clashing heads. Taylor had a serious cut on his eyelid and the doctor had no choice but to end the fight. The next count made Taylor nod.
