Titleist TruFeel budget ball: a great option for the average golfer

Title players are the number 1 ball in golf and they say every golfer will benefit from playing their best balls.

However they also offer plenty of alternatives and the TruFeel is the least expensive of their range of seven football offerings: these retail for £26 per dozen compared to £50 for either version of the Pro V1.

So, the more balls you lose, the easier it will be on the wallet. But let’s get away from just the cost and consider how this will affect your game if you keep it playing.

Firstly if you are a strong player with a lot of ball speed and someone who creates a lot of spin around the greens then this is not for you as you will not get the benefits you would get from a premium ball.

But the good news, however sad, is that many of us don’t have much speed and this ball of value will still give us a lot of help in other ways.

More distance

This was released in 2024 and a new TruTouch core was added to this two-piece ball to promote more distance.

If you think you’re going to lose 15 yards by not playing premium football you’re in for a big surprise. Likewise this will not balloon due to that aerodynamic dimple design.

Also, despite the softness of the ball, it feels firm and there is no ‘spongy’ about it. If you are new to the game your instincts may not register this but, at a moderate swing speed, it will do well enough.

Next to the green there is also a new soft 3.0 Truflex cover that gives more spin and control and, again, you may not be able to produce the same amount of check as a premium ball but you will not produce the same quality hit as a better player.

A good way to understand how this type of ball works is to look at compression.

TruFeel has 50, low, while Pro V1 is 90. A low compression ball is a type of ball designed to compress easily when hit, making it ideal for players with slow to moderate swing speeds.

Compression refers to how much the ball wears or ‘compresses’ when hit. TruFeel requires less force to compress, meaning less swingy players can still get more distance and performance from their shots.

The simple conclusion here is that this is a Titleist golf ball to be sure of a very high level of quality.

The alignment will suit some but not all people and there are three color options; white, yellow and matte red which is completely different and interesting.

A brilliant ball for the beginner or advanced hand and a very reliable mid-handicapper option.
