Toni Kroos apologized to Pedri as scans confirmed the extent of the Barcelona star’s injury

Toni Kroos has apologized to Pedri for the challenge that ended the Spain midfielder’s Euro 2024 campaign.

In what ended up being Kroos’ last senior game, Kroos fouled Pedri in the opening minutes of the game. Despite his best efforts to continue, the Barcelona youngster eventually succumbed to injury and was forced to leave the field after just eight minutes.

Spanish manager Luis de la Fuente said Kroos should have been sent off for the challenge, and the Real Madrid midfielder has apologized for the incident.

In his long farewell to football, Kroos wrote: “This is important to me. I’m sorry and get well soon, Pedri! Obviously, I didn’t mean to hurt you. Get well soon and all the best. You’re a legend. A great player.”

Pedri was immediately sent for an injury assessment, which made Barcelona fear that he might not be ready for the season.

In accordance with Mundo DeportivoPedri was diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee which will keep him out for four to six weeks.

It means Pedri will miss Barcelona’s first pre-season campaign under new manager Hansi Flick. The USA tour will see Manchester City, Real Madrid and AC Milan before August 6, but Pedri will be forced to watch from the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Pedri is expected to remain in Spain’s camp for the rest of their Euro 2024 tour, which continues with France in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
