Top 50 Dynasty Fantasy Baseball Prospects: May 2024 Update
Here is a link to the Preseason Top 100 Prospects for 2024 Dynasty Fantasy Baseball.
And here is the general structure of how this breaks down.
Graduated from: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Jackson Chourio, Evan Carter, Jackson Merrill, Shota Imanaga, Ceddanne Rafaela, Colt Keith, Nolan Schanuel, Kyle Harrison, Michael Busch, Curtis Mead, Mason Miller, Wilyer Abreu, Joey Ortiz, Jared Jones, Colten Cowser, Andy Pages, Jordan Wicks, Brayan Rocchio, Ivan Herrera, Davis Schneider, Austin Wells
Going Down: Adael Amador, Jett Williams, Robby Snelling, Parker Meadows, Abimelec Ortiz, Daniel Espino, Marco Luciano, Kristian Robinson, Jakob Marsee, Victor Scott II, Brock Porter, DL Hall
Going Up: Paul Skenes, James Wood, Xavier Isaac, Carson Williams, Emmanuel Rodriguez, Orelvis Martinez, Christian Scott, Jonny Farmelo, Josue De Paula, Jeral Perez, Jeremy Rodriguez, Jacob Wilson, Cade Povich, Agustin Ramirez
Both of these “moving” lists could go on forever. The latest list is time consuming for me. I don’t see much time passing as I watch every single player play. I only stopped this review when I did because time is real, and I ran out of it. Also, my eyes hurt from forgetting to close them. Also, allergies.
Team Position Player | Age on 4/1/24 | Highest Level Played | ETA
1. Pirates RHP Paul Skenes | 21 | MLB | 2024
2. Tribes OF James Wood | 21 | AAA | 2024
3. Orioles SS Jackson Holiday | 20 | MLB | 2024
4. Guards B Wyatt Langford | 22 | MLB | 2024
5. Radiation 3B Little Caminero | 20 | MLB | 2023
These guys are as untouchable as Sean Connery insulting Kevin Costner. Despite Holliday and Langford’s strong start, few questions remain about their long-term performance as the franchise’s main asset.
6. Radiation 1B Xavier Isaac | 20 | A+ | 2025
7. C 1B Samuel Basallo | 19 | AA | 2025
8. Yankees BY Jason Dominguez | 21 | MLB | 2023
9. Radiation SS Carson Williams | 20 | AAA | 2024
Strong place to build a dynasty here. Isaac and Basallo are safe as type A only. Dominguez and Williams put a premium topside.
10. Tigers RHP Jackson Jobe | 21 | AA | 2024
11. Diamondbacks SS Jordan Lawlar | 21 | MLB | 2023
12. Orioles 3B Coby Mayo | 22 | AAA | 2024
13. Walker Jenkins Twins | 19 | A| 2026
14. The twins of Emmanuel Rodriguez | 21 | AA | 2025
15. Sailors of Lazaro Montes | 19 | A| 2026
16. Roman Anthony’s Red Sox | 19 | AA | 2025
There are many questions here. Jobe, Lawlar, Mayo, Jenkins have all dealt with injuries this season. Only Jenkins is playing at the moment. Rodriguez brought his extreme patience to Double-A without losing a beat.
Anthony got off to a slow start but played better in May. It’s hard to dismiss a guy posting a 121 wRC+ so far above his age level.
Montes is still overlooked on other lists despite cutting his K-rate by ten points and slashing .316/.421/.525. Maybe his 40 FV on Fangraphs will look good one day. Today is not that day. He’ll probably need to blend like this all the way to get the limelight outside of royal circles, and even then he might be overlooked. I think real-baseball sites are slow to adapt to the universal designated hitter. In a league where Dan Vogelbach has been the starting DH for the two biggest teams in the market, a guy like Montes shouldn’t be buried for providing less defensive value than the average bear.
17. Mets RHP Christian Scott | MLB | 2024
18. Cubs RHP Cade Horton | 22 | AAA | 2024
19. Lambs of Pete Crow-Armstrong | 22 | MLB | 2023
20. White Sox LHP Noah Schultz | 20 | A+ | 2026
21. Orioles OF Heston Kjerstad | 25 | MLB | 2023
22. Guardians OF Chase DeLauter | 22 | AA | 2024
23. Mariners SS Colt Emerson | 18 | A| 2027
24. Red SS Noelvi Marte | 22 | MLB | 2023
25. Nations of KU Dylan Crews | 22 | AA | 2024
26. White Sox SS Colson Montgomery | 22 | AAA | 2024
27. Tigers OF Max Clark | 19 | A| 2028
28. Tigers 2B Jace Jung | 23 | AAA | 2024
Horton has lost some heat this year and is being dealt in Triple-A. Pete Crow is having trouble getting hit. Schultz looks great. It could be very low here.
Kjerstad is impressive when he’s on the field in Triple-A, but the organization hasn’t given him a chance. I would argue that he should be higher if not for my recent bias and frustration.
DeLauter and Emerson were injured. Marte is suspended. The workers beat lightly on the person striking the tool. Montgomery’s extreme endurance makes him a tough player in real life, but he can be useless without the right settings. Clark is coming up and can move up this team quickly. Jung is hot over his last 20 games (.333/.444/.597), but he lacks speed and may not hit for incredible power in a difficult park.
29. Mets SS Jett Williams | 19 | AA | 2025
30. Phillies RHP Andrew Painter | 20 | AA | 2025
31. Marlins RHP Max Meyer | 25 | MLB | 2022
32. Red Sox SS Marcelo Mayer | 21 | AA | 2025
33. Blue Jays 3B Orelvis Martinez | 22 | AAA | 2024
34. Twins SS Brooks Lee | 23 | AAA | 2024
Another consistent bet here, even if half of them are injured this year (Williams, Painter, Lee), and two of them are mishandled by their organization (Meyer, Martinez). Prizing Painter isn’t the way I’d like to build a pedigree, but he still trades for valuable upside.
35. Guards SS Sebastian Walcott | 18 | A+ | 2027
36. Mariners OF Jonny Farmelo | 19 | A| 2027
37. Lambs of Owen Caissie | 21 | AAA | 2024
38. Cubs SS Jefferson Rojas | 18 | A+ | 2026
39. Giants 1B Bryce Eldridge | 19 | A| 2026
40. Dodgers BY Josue De Paula | 18 | A| 2027
Cost v. topside, this is probably my favorite section. Sky high ceilings all around.
41. Padres SS Leodalis De Vries | 17 | A| 2027
42. Nationals 3B Homes in Brady | 20 | AA | 2024
43. Cubs SS Matt Shaw | 22 | AA | 2024
44. Cardinals RHP Touch So | 21 | AA | 2024
45. Blue Jays LHP Ricky Tiedemann | 21 | AAA | 2024
46. Rays OF Johnny DeLuca | 25 | MLB | 2023
47. Guardians 1B Kyle Manzardo | 23 | MLB | 2024
48. RHP coordinators Jacob Misiorowski | 21 | AA | 2024
49. Astros 1B Joey Loperfido | 25 | MLB | 2024
50. Orioles LHP Cade Povich | 24 | AAA | 2024
2024 could be better for all of these guys, but they’re still here. For Povich, Manzardo and Loperfido, the only missing piece is a real opportunity for the big boys. Loperfido may backfire in children in a few days. Manzardo may not be far behind.
De Vries may need a complex league reset.
House has doubled his walk rate and is reaching his greatest potential in games.
Tiedemann is injured again.
Shaw struggled after pushing to make the big league team in the Spring and ended up in Double-A.
So he thrived on the trip back to Double-A. It’s anyone’s guess why he’s still around.
Povich is likely coming soon, given the injury bug biting Baltimore. However, he is not on the 40-man roster.
