Tottenham are ready to hijack the Man United deal with a view to transfer

Former Tottenham player Alan Hutton has some news regarding Manchester United.

Hutton has claimed that Spurs could hijack Man United’s move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The Red Devils are desperate to sign a new defender and have made the England defender their first choice.

However, Spurs could scupper Man United’s transfer plans and target Everton’s talented young defender.

Several top clubs have expressed their interest in Branthwaite due to his impressive performances for Everton last season.

The 21-year-old has been a key member of the Toffees and has shown signs of developing into a regular starter for England.

Hutton told Football Insider that Branthwaite would fit in well with Tottenham’s defence, giving the team more depth and skill.

“I feel it sometimes [Tottenham] it was easy in that sense, actually beyond four,” Hutton said.

“If you look at their starting team, if someone gets injured or is missing for a long time, the players who come in are not up to par.

Tottenham are said to hijack Man United’s contract with Jarrad Branthwaite.

“To have someone in the door with such ability who can be a regular starter for England going forward, that would be a big thing.

“He did very well last season, and there are discussions [Cristian] Romero could be on the way, so there are a few things on the line that could lead to them going for someone like him. [Branthwaite], and he fills that space in the middle. I heard that there might be a carjacking there, from the people I talk to at the club.”

Tottenham could spoil Man United’s transfer plans

For Spurs fans, the prospect of adding a young, talented player like Branthwaite is certainly attractive.

The financial aspect of the deal remains a major hurdle, however.

With Spurs looking to sign a new striker this summer, spending a large chunk of their transfer budget on a defender doesn’t make a lot of sense for them.

If Tottenham can pull off such a signing by beating Man United, it will be a huge statement of intent for the North London club.
