Nations 3B Jose Tena made the top 100 list to Keith Law, but has been moved down the defensive spectrum since then. White Sox RHP Davis Martin will inherit the spot vacated by RHP Erick Fedde. He topped out at 96.8 mph and looked generally solid in his first time back in the majors after Tommy John surgery ended his 2023 season. He’s not a human, but I put him in Razz 30 hoping he’d show up, so I’m invested now.
The only reason big name prospects weren’t moved is that the White Sox picked 2B OF Miguel Vargas in their return of Fedde and RHP Michael Kopech. The fantasy community has been waiting to see a healthy Vargas in action for a while and he will get that chance in Chicago. I expect Kopech to be successful in Los Angeles. He has a chance to pick in the ninth inning today given the difficulty of that bullpen.
Blue Jays K Steward Berroa swiped three bags in two days of playtime. Kevin Kiermaier is in Los Angeles. Toronto will probably go with it Joey Loperfido over Berroa when he came to town, but Berroa could still be useful in deep leagues as a part-time innings pick on the other side of the field. Loperfido looks like one of the big winners here after Houston couldn’t get him much time. He’ll swing and miss, but he needs the reps to work his way through contact issues and reach double-double power. His was the only trade that was included internationally as an additional payment for LHP Yusei Kikuchi. RHP Jake Bloss again 3B Will Wagner (Billy’s son if you want to experience the passage of time) were part of that trade and both could see big league pay later.
The Orioles added Eloy Jimenez for the buzzer beater and recalled 2B Jackson Holliday. Eloy’s piece isn’t good news for Heston Kjerstad, Ryan O’Hearn, Coby Mayo, but they could easily move on from Jimenez if they can’t keep him healthy. They have club options each season for the next two seasons at $16.5 and $18.5 million. I think they will work with him in whatever their team sees. He still hits the ball hard. Maybe he misses a few games, maybe he never measures up, but there’s a chance he’ll be something close to the hitter he was in 2022 or 2020 or 2019.
