Twitter goes wild as Afghanistan stun New Zealand to register record win in 2024 T20 World Cup
In an amazing display of cricketing prowess, Afghanistan He won against New Zealand at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, secured an 84-run victory in the process ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Led by their fearsome spinners and bolstered by a formidable batting, Afghanistan did an impressive job to secure their second consecutive win in the tournament and first victory over the Blackcaps in the shorter format.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz leads Afghanistan in explosive batting
Against New Zealand, Afghanistan showed their batting depth, posting an impressive total of 159/6 in their allotted 20 overs. To open the dough Rahmanullah Gurbaz he stole the show with a stunning knock of 80 runs off 56 balls, with plenty of boundaries and sixes. Supported by Ibrahim Zadran‘s resilient 44, Afghanistan built a solid foundation despite early setbacks, setting the stage for a challenging total.

New Zealand bowlers face an uphill battle
New Zealand’s bowling unit faced a tough challenge against a fierce Afghanistan team. Despite the efforts from Trent Boult again Matt Henrywho got two wickets each, Afghanistan’s batsmen used strong runs, piling up runs at a rapid pace. Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner also contributed a wicket apiece, but Afghanistan’s strong start and late arrivals saw them reach a competitive score.
Afghanistan’s bowlers are doing wonders
Chasing 160 runs, New Zealand’s batting line-up collapsed under the pressure put on by Afghanistan’s bowlers. Fazalhaq Farooqi led the way with a bang, taking four wickets for just 17 runs, then Mohammad Nabi gave a crucial win by two wickets. Captain Rashid Khan he showed his spin wizardry, got four wickets and orchestrated New Zealand’s collapse. Rashid’s masterclass, coupled with Farooqi’s early onslaught, left New Zealand reeling at 75 all out. Gurbaz was named Player of the Match for his exceptional batting.
