South Africa knocked out six-time champions Australia to reach the final Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. In a high-profile match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday (October 17), the Proteas won by eight wickets, avenging their defeat in the 2023 final. Australia, have lost their captain Alyssa Healy due to a foot injury, struggled to make ends meet as South Africa ended Australia’s 15-match winning streak at the tournament, recording their first victory over the Aussies in the Women’s World T20 in eight meetings.
Australian innings: Strong Beth Mooney and aggressive Ellyse Perry
After being put into bat, Australia managed to post a total of 134/5. The Aussies were unsuccessful at first Thank you Khakawho spent Grace Harris just at 3. Georgia Wareham followed soon after, leaving Australia in a precarious position. However, the durability Beth Mooney (44 off 42 balls) and Tahlia McGrath (27 off 29 balls) stabilized the innings with a run of 50 runs for the third wicket. Ellyse Perry injected some aggression of late, smashing 31 off 23 balls, giving the Aussies a much-needed boost. Phoebe Litchfield came in with a quickfire 16 off 9 balls, but Australia couldn’t accelerate as much as they would have liked. Khaka was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 24 runs in his 4 overs, while And Kuleko Mlaba again Marizanne Kapp also chipped in with important wickets.

South Africa’s chase: Steady Laura Wolvaardt and outstanding Anneke Bosch
South Africa’s run chase started cautiously, with only four runs in the first two overs. Tazmin Brits he hit a few boundaries to get things going but was dismissed 15 times Annabelle Sutherlandwho emerged as Australia’s top bowler with figures of 4-0-26-2. From there, you’re settled Laura Wolvaardt (42 off 38 balls) and outstanding Anneke Bosch (74 off 48 balls) took over, building a partnership of 96 runs for the second wicket.

None of the Australian bowlers, apart from Sutherland, could contain the South African batsmen, with Megan Schutt and others who fail to make an impact.
