UEFA Nations League B: Republic of Ireland v England

Game preview

Interim England manager Lee Carsley looks to make his first game in charge as the Three Lions open their Nations League campaign against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

England were knocked out of the group stage in 2022 and will be aiming to bounce back, starting with a win in Dublin.

Gareth Southgate will be absent following his decision to resign following England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final in July.

The Republic has won just three of its last 13 games and is less than that. And they have a new man in charge with Heimir Hallgrímsson who was appointed two months ago. His name will come as a shock to England fans as he jointly captained Iceland, along with Lars Lagerbäck, as they knocked England out of Euro 2016 with a 2-1 victory in Nice.
