Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq among five consultants appointed by PCB for domestic tournaments.
The PCB has not given a reason why Waqar is no longer in that role and why he is now a consultant in the position, which is a three-year contract and, in the words of the PCB, was the result of a “transparent and rigorous recruitment process”. It has been suggested that both sides thought Waqar might be better suited to a team-building role like this one, with greater involvement in the side’s development. The role of chair advisor is still being advertised.
“I am delighted to welcome five exceptional champions as coaches of the Champions Cup teams,” PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement. “These individuals bring a wealth of cricket knowledge, experience and expertise, combined with their passion for the game we all love, will help the Pakistan Cricket Board to identify, develop and nurture the next generation of cricketers across all disciplines. This move will not only benefit the Pakistan men’s cricket team but also it helps bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.”
The PCB also confirmed that Sarfaraz, who is part of the squad for the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, will continue his playing career.
