Fan favorite Joel Dahmen overturned a tumultuous 2024 season with a clutch round of 64, saving his PGA Tour card for next year.
The American golfer, whose following grew after appearing in the Netflix series ‘Full Swing’, had a less-than-ideal 2024 and had to pull off Sunday’s magic at RSM’s season-ending classic.
With his outgoing personality and iconic, wide-brimmed hat, Dahmen is a tour staple. However, it looks like his appearances will be limited to 2025.
He entered the weekend sitting at 124th in the FedExCup standings, just one spot out of the top 125 needed to guarantee a full card.
But Saturday’s low round of 70 left him just short of the number needed to secure his playing rights for next season.
The 37-year-old suspect shot on Sunday, knowing that everything was on the line. He shot a bogey-free six-under 64 to the delight of golf fans, closing his card.
The dramatic turnaround began with an eagle from 110 yards on the par-4 13th hole.
The 64 – one of the rounds of the day – moved Dahmen into a tie for 35th place, enough to secure the 124th spot of the season and, most importantly, that full tour card for 2025.
Following his heroics, Dahmen explained that he enjoyed the situation and how it spread. “When you’re behind eight like this, it almost gives you a little freedom to do something big and not just relax.
“It’s almost hard sometimes to hold on like it’s hard to hold the lead, the big lead, the big lead, rather than the chaser. I think it somehow worked out for me,” he added.
