The 2024 Creator’s Classic at East Lake Golf Club was always going to produce something unusual but this driver’s performance shocked everyone.
Mac Boucher may have missed the fairway but when you consider that the lefty hit his shot with the club to the right, it was a great effort.
An incredible year for golf on YouTube culminated in Wednesday’s Creator Classic, which saw 16 of the field’s top stars compete at East Lake on the eve of the TOUR tournament.
The first event of its kind has had over 110,000 live views on YouTube. It was also simulcast on ESPN+ and Peacock. Luke Kwon defeated Wesley Bryan, Sean Walsh, and Roger Steele in a sudden death match on 5 18 to win the first edition of the event.
“The response from fans and content creators has been amazing,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan.
It’s been a tough time for YouTube golf, which has slowly begun to integrate with the paid golf scene.
In March, a group of YouTube producers and professional golfers participated in “The Q at Myrtle Beach,” an 18-hole qualifying tournament that provided an exemption to the PGA TOUR’s Myrtle Beach Classic. It was won by Matt Atkins, a former PGA TOUR player who was on Bryans’ station.
TOUR professionals make regular guest appearances for the producers, who have become friends. The Bryan brothers and fellow video producer Grant Horvat provided another ESPN+ feed for FedEx St. Jude Championship on Thursday and Friday, with Horvat driving the game from TPC Southwind.
The event showcased YouTube’s competitive but creative environment in which many producers operate.
Riggs, Trent, and Frankie of Barstool’s Fore Play hit the event shorts to kick off the tournament. At the top of Mac Boucher, a Canadian left-hander, who turned the driver to the right and hit his first shot from 285 yards, Mason Nutt, of BustaJack Golf, smashed the driver on the deck.
In addition, Garrett Clark from Good Good made a quintuple bogey on the 4th 12th while Roger Steele, owner of Callaway’s Range Talk, hit a 346-yard drive on the 10th, registering a ball speed of 195 mph.
TV, Netflix, and YouTube cameras captured the entire experience.
