Sri Lanka elected to bat first when they won the toss but failed to manage 77 runs before being bowled out in 19.1 overs. Anrich Nortje (4/7), Keshav Maharaj (2/22), and Kagiso Rabada (2/21) proved too strong for the Sri Lankan batsmen on a challenging New York pitch.
Quinton de Kock (20) and Heinrich Klaasen (19*) showed some brilliant batting along with his teammates, guiding South Africa to victory in 16.2 overs. Anyway Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lankan captain, taking two wickets, his efforts could not prevent defeat.
