With a sad and heartfelt farewell, Rahul Dravidformer Indian cricketer and coach of the Indian cricket team, announced his resignation following India‘s victory victory in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Dravid’s departure marks the end of an important era, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, teamwork, and success.

An emotional farewell speech

After the final match of the T20 World Cup, Dravid addressed the Indian cricket team in the dressing room, expressing his deep gratitude and pride. “Me I am very short on words, but what I want to say is that I thank everyone for making me a part of what is an amazing memory.,” began Dravid, visibly moved. He emphasized the importance of journeys and shared moments rather than individual achievements, saying, β€œIt’s not about runs or wickets; you will not remember your work. But you will remember moments like these. I couldn’t be prouder of you guys. Come back the way you did, the way you fought. The way we worked as a team. Strength.

Acknowledgment of sacrifice and gratitude

Dravid highlighted the sacrifices made by the players and their families, acknowledging the disappointments of the past and celebrating the incredible achievements of the current team.

There have been a few disappointments over the years where we have come close, but we just couldn’t get over the line. But what this group of boys did, everyone on the staff did. The whole country is proud of one of you for what you have achieved,” he said.

The Karnataka hero also added “”Think about all the sacrifices each of you has made since you were children. For you to be here in the dressing room today, your parents, your wives, your children, your brothers, your coaches. Many people have made many sacrifices to enjoy this memory, this moment.

Special mention to Rohit Sharma

Dravid also expressed his gratitude to the captain Rohit Sharma for encouraging him to extend his coaching time following India’s ODI World Cup final defeat Australia last November. β€œThank you so much, Ro (Rohit), for making that phone call in November and asking me to continue. It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with everyone, as well as Ro. Thank you for your time. I know that as captain and coach we have a lot of time to talk. We must agree; we must disagree. It’s been great getting to know each of you,” noted Dravid.
