WATCH: Shubman Gill’s controversial catch to dismiss Kusal Mendis in SL vs IND 3rd ODI

I The third One Day International (ODI) between Sri Lanka and India which was in the R stadium. The Premadasa Stadium in Colombo was plagued by controversy, especially regarding the catches Shubman Gillleading to the dismissal of Kusal Mendis. The incident happened in the 49th over of Sri Lanka’s innings when Mendis tried to pull a short ball. Kuldeep Yadav. The shot was high and straight to mid-wicket, where Gill was standing. As he jumped to catch, Gill’s momentum carried him towards the boundary. In a split-second decision, he was able to throw the ball just after regaining his balance to complete the catch.

The on-field umpires referred the decision to the third official, who considered the many angles of the play as well. Although there was no conclusive evidence that Gill had touched the boundary while in possession of the ball, the third umpire ruled that the ball was legal, resulting in Mendis being dismissed for 53 runs. The decision sparked immediate reactions from both teams, with the Sri Lankan players visibly upset and the Indian players celebrating the wicket.
