Golf experts Piers Ward and Andy Proudman, better known as MeAndMyGolf, know a thing or two about golf links.

Not only are they among the internet’s favorite golf professionals, they also coach DP World Tour and PGA Tour winner Aaron Rai for the 2022 Scottish Open on the links in East Lothian at the Renaissance Club.

In this TaylorMade Golf video they both reveal how to hit the most rewarding golf links shot – the running draw.

“We’re on the 17th hole at Royal Birkdale,” said Ward, “which is a beast of a 5 for 570 yards.

“We have bunkers on the right at 313 yards and mounds on the right and left.

“It’s a little round dog leg from right to left.

“So Andy, if we can get a low drive off the tee we can get about a 50 yard run down the fairway and make two shots on the 5.”

Ward has set the task and now it is Proudman’s turn to apply the theory.

“Yes, it is important to keep the ball down so that it is not disturbed by the wind,” he explained.

“I really want to get the ball down and run to get the most out of this shot.

“There are two things I will do to get a low score,” he explained.

“The first thing I’m going to do is get the golf ball a little lower than normal. This will help me get that slightly lower launch angle.

“The key to getting this low shot is creating a dynamic low point on the club when hitting the golf ball.

“So what I want to do to help is, I’m going to reverse the ball position a little bit back into my stance and in my golf swing I’m going to feel like the lead wrist is going to bend a little bit. “

It is important to watch the video in this section. The back of the glove – and therefore the back of the hand – is facing down.

“This will keep the team from going in and make the ball come out very low,” said Proudman.

“Now what I need to do now is bring the drag part to it.

“I’m going to direct the club where I’m aiming but I’m going to direct my feet to the right, ball point back, and to top it all off I’m going to shorten my end to keep that golf ball down and run down that way. “
