WBBL 2024/25, HH-W vs ST-W 4th Match Report, October 28, 2024
Hobart Hurricanes 141 for 7 (Carey 52, Bates 3-20). Sydney Thunder 110 (Litchfield 51, Graham 3-19) by 31 runs
The Hurricanes got their season off to a flying start on Monday night, handing Sydney their fifth loss at the newly-renamed Ninja Stadium. Carey top scored 52 off 38 deliveries, including seven boundaries, batting at No.
“I’ve had a few different roles with the bat over the last few years. It’s nice to get more time in the middle,” the allrounder told Fox Cricket, adding that he was surprised when his coaches suggested he bat at No. 3. “I’m not one to remove the thread, so it might look a little different.”
Carey also played an important role with the ball, taking out Thunder’s second scorer Anika Learoyd (29).
But Litchfield fell in the 14th over when they were baffled by Lizelle Lee’s quick work off Graham.
Carey had to steady the ship when Lee walked in the second over after the Hurricanes lost the bat flip and were sent off.
He came alive in a burst of energy for two overs, hitting four boundaries to push the Hurricanes to 92 for 2 but was out soon after.
Sydney’s chase got off to a rough start when Molly Strano trapped Athapaththu lbw on the first ball.
The Thunder will seek revenge when they meet the Hurricanes on Thursday night at North Sydney Oval.
