West Ham are closing in on Newcastle for England’s star striker

West Ham have reportedly inquired about the signing of Newcastle striker Callum Wilson as they look to add fire to their arsenal in the summer window.

After a disappointing season for the Hammers, both domestically and internationally, David Moyes was fired from the club and Julen Lopetegui took over as the new manager.

With the summer transfer market in full swing, many West Ham fans will be eager to see new arrivals and are curious to see who their new Spanish manager is aiming for.

One of the most important areas they need to strengthen is the forward area where the club is struggling to fill the gap left by the injured Michail Antonio last campaign.

According to reports from Chronicle LiveThe Hammers asked about Newcastle striker Wilson who has only one year left on his contract at St. James’ Park.

The report says that although the 32-year-old player would like to stay at the club, he may consider moving if it helps him fit into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the next World Cup.

Wilson scored nine goals and registered an assist for Eddie Howe’s side in 20 Premier League games last season but was back-up to Alexander Isak with the French striker regarded as a star forward.

The report also says that the England striker is estimated at £18 million, which is a sum of money that can help free up some money from Howe’s team.
