What Will the Edmonton Oilers Pay Evan Bouchard for His Next Contract?
The Edmonton Oilers recently signed Leon Draisatil to a new eight-year contract worth $112 million. With Draisaitl gone, attention will turn to Connor McDavid. Despite the crazy events, McDavid is a lock to be an Oiler for Life. That means the next order of business is getting defenseman Evan Bouchard to a new contract.
Edmonton Oilers Had No Option To Pay Leon Draisaitl To Keep Him
The question will be what Evan Bouchard will do in his next deal. He was fourth among defensemen in scoring with 82 points (18 goals and 64 assists). 32 points in the playoffs (six goals and 26 assists). So does that mean you get more than Darnell Nurse?
Frankie Corrado appeared on TSN’s That’s Hockey with Gino Reda. They talked about the Edmonton Oilers, and Reda asked Corrado what Evan Bouchard could do in his next contract.

NHL Rumors: Expect Evan Bouchard to Stay with Edmonton Oilers
Gino Reda: “Evan Bouchard, you’re going to look at what $10 (million) is.”
Frankie Corrado: “Well, now you’re going to have a compelling case.”
Reda: “Okay, so if he gets $10 (million), and you’ve already given $30 (million), but the other two are now looking at half of your cap for three guys.”
Corrado: “And don’t forget, it made 9.25 million dollars, so you still have to remember that that money is already on your books.
Here’s the thing about Evan Bouchard: if he had a big, big stat of the year, he was very good at it, he’s playing on that power play, and he’s not just a cheater, he’s a big part of that power play, and he’s putting up 90-95 points, if that’s, you know, crawling at that 100 point pace, which is crazy. It’s crazy to think about, but he’s annoyingly talented. He can do it.
What will Connor McDavid do in his next contract?
Do you want to pay him $10 million? You still have to remember that he has to ride shotgun with Mattias Ekholm like he’s not Cale Makar, Quinn Hughes, or a one-man show. He’s good on the power play, but still needs to settle down a bit.
So, it’s $10 million for Evan Bouchard, even though the numbers may be there, and it’s a lot of money to pay a guy who still needs to ride the gun with a solid player.”
